North American Ice Storm - 1998

The North American Ice Storm (A.K.A. The Great Ice Storm) happened in January of 1998 and was a massive combination of successive ice storms to strike a narrow swath of land. It caused great damage to trees and electrical infrastructure all over the area, which led to long-term power outages. It shut down large cities such as Montreal and Ottawa. This storm led to the largest deployment of Canadian Military since the Korean War, with over 15,000 Canadian Forces personnel sent to Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick at the height of the storm.
